Bruniquel, one of the most beautiful villages in France, believe us, it deserves it. This tiny village perched on its rocky peak has a power of attraction that you will surely not want to escape!!!
Discover the village of Bruniquel
Dominating the Aveyron River from an impressive height, the castles of Bruniquel are the first to capture the eye. The enchantment continues when you stroll through the fortified medieval town built in stages.
Founded, it is said, by Queen Brunehaut, daughter of the king of the Visigoths, Bruniquel offers ornate limestone facades, climbing rose bushes and lilacs, wild gardens, steep streets paved with pebbles, beautiful residences spanning the centuries: XNUMXth, XNUMXth, XNUMXth.
The castles crowning the rock consist of the Château “Jeune” with its labyrinth of partly restored rooms, the tower of Queen Brunehaut (XNUMXth century) but also the Château “Vieux”. Built on ancient walls from the Middle Ages, the latter offers a superb panorama of the Gorges de l'Aveyron, from the top of its Renaissance-style gallery opening steeply onto the river.
This historic ensemble served as a setting for the film “The Old Rifle” with Philippe Noiret and Romy Schneider. A room hosts an exhibition of photos taken during the filming of this film.
The castles are open to the public from the beginning of March to mid-November and all year round by appointment for groups (from 15 people). For more information on the Bruniquel castles, go to here !

The information that we are going to reveal to you is not a secret, on the contrary, it has gone around the world! In the Bruniquel cave, 336 meters from the entrance, developed structures have just been dated to around 176 years old. This discovery considerably pushes back the date of human visitation of the caves, the oldest formal proof dating to 500 years ago (Chauvet). This fabulous discovery places Bruniquel's constructions among the first in the history of Humanity! So, amazed?!!
The cave cannot be visited because it is still the subject of scientific research, but come and visit the exhibition dedicated to it at the Bruniquel Castles.
