Yes, you are indeed in AOP wine-growing land, but here the landscapes play with diversity and you will see that the vines mingle with orchards, market gardens, pastures, small authentic villages, a subtle and balanced graphic mix making our landscapes a canvas in multiple tones, as if man had taken advantage of the generosity of the earth to compose his work of art full of poetry... and respect!
In the largest wine-growing region in the world, Occitanie, today the AOC Coteaux du Quercy vineyard covers more than 130 hectares and 38 communes, including 17 communes, 21 of which are in the Lot and 17 in the Tarn-et-Garonne.
Ecology is not an option with us!
Aesthetics are all well and good, but ecology is not an option for us! The proof is the numerous areas labeled organic AB, biodynamic, HVE... in short, we don't mess around with nature here, and it shows! Our cooperators the cellar in Montpezat de Quercy are a good example of this since most of them practice mixed farming, thus contributing to the richness of our landscapes.
The wines of the hills of Quercy do not have the same reputation as their neighbors, Cahors, Gaillac or even the ends of Languedoc but they offer that little extra soul which makes it so special.
Areas labeled organic, biodynamic, high environmental value:
- Organic: Domaine de Maillac, Revel, Lacoste, 35% of cooperators
- Biodynamics: Lafage
- HVE: Domaine de La Garde, Guillau, Chai St-Etienne, Cauquelle, 50% of cooperators
What is an AOP wine?
The protected designation of origin (AOP) or controlled designation of origin (AOC) is an official label registered with the European Union ensuring the good quality of a food product, wines and terroirs. For a wine to benefit from the quality label, its preparation must meet precise specifications, from the choice of grape varieties to the cultivation and vinification methods as well as the tastes and flavor of the wine. wine once bottled. A bottle which benefits from the protected designation of origin must therefore comply with these production conditions.
Today there are more than 300 wine AOPs in France and it is up to the National Institute of Origin and Quality, the INAO, to ensure that the wine meets the criteria set out in the specifications. loads. The institute will in fact guarantee the typicality of each wine by linking it to the know-how of a particular region.

Did you know?
In the 40000th century, the largest vineyard in France (1876 hectares) was established in the Quercy region. Unfortunately the vineyard was almost completely destroyed by the phylloxera crisis in XNUMX. But a new generation of dynamic and motivated men and women are organizing to maintain and preserve the identity of this Quercy vineyard.
Let's talk, let's talk wine: Characteristics
The Wines of the Coteaux du Quercy are colorful and very fruity. Fleshy on the palate and with a supple attack, they reveal pleasant aromas of raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, highlighted by subtle floral and peppery nuances. The red wines from the hills of Quercy are rich in “good tannins” expressing roundness after aging. The rosé wines of Coteaux du Quercy have a beautiful bright, light pink color. They have a powerful nose, predominantly floral and fruity. On the palate, these rosé wines combine a supple attack with perfect balance, imbued with liveliness.
The basic grape variety is Cabernet Franc. It must make up 40 to 60% of the grape varieties to which the Tannat, Malbec, Merlot and Gamay grape varieties are combined.

An agricultural high school
A wind of youth continues to blow in the Coteaux du Quercy! And for good reason, the young students of Le Montat Agricultural High School exploit the vines of Domaine de Lacoste and bring all their freshness and a fresh perspective on the wine industry. An attractive AOC which appeals to our young people and which leaves before them a whole range of possibilities. The next generation is in place! Because our winegrowers are also the agents of change, our high school students did not break the rule and listened to their peers by installing and operating beehives around the vineyards. A natural ecological act for all of our professionals. And it’s still good!!!
The plus of Domaine de Lacoste: truffle oaks! So imagine the typical Quercy alliance: a good red wine, truffle, honey… happiness!
